Thylane Lena-Rose Blondeau is creating WAVES in the fashion industry right now and everyone is buzzing about her. Ready for this? She is 10 YEARS OLD! Born in 2001, this young little french model just landed her very first feature in French Vogue. Her face reminds me of Natalia Vodianova and despite her young age, photographers are chomping at the bit to snap her. I love the shots of her dressed in overly sophisticated decadent womenswear. The last two photos are very reminiscent of young girls playing in their mother's closet. I found this editorial completely endearing. Thylane also carries off the sweet approachable young girl as well as the boho edgy chic look and makes both look believable and genuine. At the ripe age of 10 she is already shooting with extreme versatility.
A lot of people are saying that they find it disturbing that Thylane is modeling at such a young age and that her parents are so wrong to allow this, blah blah. I am sorry, but I could not disagree more with the hypocrisy of this. We see children all day long in J.Crew, Oshkosh B'gosh, Toys R' Us, whatever... Those kids work way longer days, year round, get paid plenty of money, and milk the same cash cow of the modeling industry as editorial models. Just because Thylane is shooting for Vogue doesn't make her any different from any other "child model". She is just shooting in a different venue. If it's her dream, she'll do it as long as she wants to. Thylane is definitely one to watch and I can see a LONG career ahead of her. She can only grow and mature into her beauty and is completely enigmatic! Oh, and when I have a daughter... I want her to dress just like Thylane in the first photo. Obsessed! I just love her!
